Just Do It, Part 4

We live in a world where people are valued based on how much they make, what they do for a living, or how successful they are. The battle with money, is one of the most demanding trials we face on a daily basis. But, trials give us an opportunity to exercise our faith. And from time to time, we need to be reminded that money is not the measuring stick of our self-worth, Christ is! James reminds us that it’s when we treasure Christ that we’re able to see who we truly are.

It’s when we treasure Christ that we’re able to see who we truly are.
— Pastor Peter Seide

Scripture:

James 1:9-11

Believers in humble circumstances ought to take pride in their high position. But the rich should take pride in their humiliation—since they will pass away like a wild flower. For the sun rises with scorching heat and withers the plant; its blossom falls and its beauty is destroyed. In the same way, the rich will fade away even while they go about their business.

Highlights:

• The temptation of both the rich and the poor is to gauge their worth based off of how much they have or make.

• Possessions, like everything else in this life, will fade away.

• Money promises us security, happiness, and value in the eyes of others. But it can never fill the God shaped void in our hearts.

• Wealth tries to deceive us into believing that it can provide significance that we need but that we can only find in Christ.

It’s when we treasure Christ that we’re able to see who we truly are.
