Just Do It, Part 13

Wisdom is putting God’s truths into action. But because of our ongoing struggle with sin, there’s a battle between two wisdoms within us. One is from heaven and the other from earth. The challenge is, we can’t always tell which one is leading us.

We become wise when God’s truths start to shape the way that we live our lives.
— Pastor Peter Seide

Scripture:

James 3:13-18

Who is wise and understanding among you? Let them show it by their good life, by deeds done in the humility that comes from wisdom. But if you harbor bitter envy and selfish ambition in your hearts, do not boast about it or deny the truth. Such “wisdom” does not come down from heaven but is earthly, unspiritual, demonic. For where you have envy and selfish ambition, there you find disorder and every evil practice.

But the wisdom that comes from heaven is first of all pure; then peace-loving, considerate, submissive, full of mercy and good fruit, impartial and sincere. Peacemakers who sow in peace reap a harvest of righteousness.

Highlights:

• The choices we make in the present matter just as much, if not more, than the mistakes we made in the past.

• Wisdom is not so much what you know, but how you apply what you know.

• Wisdom is putting God’s truths into action.

• True wisdom is good deeds done from a humble heart.

• Humility is not a personality type. It’s a disposition; a state of the heart.

• Humility is realizing that God will hold you up when you’re too weak to stand on your own.

• Pride comes from an unchecked spirit, but true wisdom comes from a humble heart.

• Worldly wisdom happens when we not only want a seat at the table, we want to be at the head of the table. We not only want a voice, we want the most dominant voice.

• We can say and do the right things the wrong way.

• God is in the business of redeeming every situation and any individual who turns to Him.

• By drawing us to Himself, God has drawn us to each other.

• The way of wisdom is gradual, consistent decisions that are made from a humble heart.

We become wise when God’s truths start to shape the way that we live our lives.
